Gary L. Palmquist, 68 of New London, died Saturday, April 28, 2018 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.  His funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London.        
                                   
Gary Lee Palmquist was born on September 12, 1949 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Richard and Ruth (Peterson) Palmquist.  He grew up in Plymouth and attended Wayzata High School, graduating in 1968.  On August 21, 1968, he entered the US Navy where he served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1970.  On July 14, 1973, Gary was united in marriage to Debra Quade.  To this union a daughter and two sons were born.  He made his home in New London where he worked for Mill Farms, Rice Hospital for many years and most recently as a greeter at Walmart before retiring in 2013. 

 

Gary was a member of New London American Legion and New London Hunting Club.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather who instilled a love of the outdoors to his family. 

 

Gary is survived by his children, Kelly Quade (special friend, Rory), Keith (Jana) Palmquist and Kreg Palmquist (special friend, Mayra); grandchildren, Marissa, Treven, Kiara, Brenna, Kwynn, Brady, Lucas, Carly, Austin, Ana, and Araya; great-grandchild, Vera; mother, Ruth Palmquist; sister, Sherry (Doug) Wadsworth.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Richard and brother, Terry.
