Charlie Peterson 1939-2020

Hall of Famer Charlie Peterson passed away on February 18th. He was 80 years old.

Peterson excelled as an athlete in football, wrestling, and golf in high school for Owatonna and at Luther College after that. He went on to be a head wrestling coach at Tracy and Wayzata High Schools.

He was inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1974, the Luther College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978, and the Owatonna High School Hall of Fame in 2002.

Charlie Peterson Obituary:

Peterson, Charlie “Tuna” R., age 80 of Plymouth, passed on 2/18/2020.

He was the wrestling coach at Wayzata High School from 1967 to 1976, where he compiled an impressive 91-49-1 record for Dual Meets. In 1974 the team placed second in the State Tournament with a record of 16-0-0. Charlie “Tuna” Peterson retired from teaching in 1976 and then sold sports supplies and equipment for Champion Products, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to First Tee Burl Cup.

Memorial service will be held at 3PM on Monday, March 9th with visitation one hour prior at Washburn McReavey Hopkins Funeral Chapel, 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins, Minn.
